DETAILS OF FRENCH "DOPE" CASE The Commissioners dc la Societe dEncouragement, at a special session in Paris on September 26. rendered an important decision relative to the increasing practice of doping horses for races. The subject of the trial was the running of the filly Titanite, bred and owned by Baron Maurice de Rothschild, which won the Prix dc Glatigny at Longchamps on September 12. In vic,v of the, previous form dis-plajed by Titanite and the fact that the animal was frothing and scattering saliva over the course, the. stewards ordered the saliva to be taken from the fillys mouth and submitted to Professor Mauricu Kauffman for analysis. The professor reported that a stimulant had been freely administered and the traircr, Maurice dOkhuysen, was called before the commissioners and confronted- with the evidence. DOkhuysen pleaded guilty. His hitherto good reputation was pleaded in defense and the commissioners imposed a fine of 00 with a Warning that any further complaint would result in his being ruled off for life. The filly was disqualified. Titanite is a well-bred two-year-old, by Sardana-pale Saint Astra, and lias since been sold to M. Mantacheff for 8,400 at the Cheri Establishment sale on October 4.
