, 1 J i FIFTEEN BEST THREE- YEAR -OLDS MAN 0 WAR SIMPLY INVINCIBLE, BUT MANY OTHER STERLING PERFORMERS WERE ENGAGED IN THE YEARS CAMPAIGN The American three-year-old situation this year was a case of one horse, and then some others. The one horse was Man o War. The others were a band of young horses good enough for any average racing year, but small potatoes when forced to contend with their imperious muster. He treated them all alike, ran away from them one and nil. Never gave them a look-in and could give them all any weight in reason. Therefore, lie was the greatest tlireu-year-old of 1920 and greatest three-year-old money-winner of American turf history. Yet the other best three-year-olds of 1020 were capital race horses. Such as On Watch, John P. Grier, Wildair, Paul Jones, Busy Signal, Cleopatra, Blazes and Upset would have won great fame in any other year. They were fleet, .they could carry high weight comfortably, could sprint and could stay over as long distances as they are called on to ,do in our racing. They are all credited with high-elass performances in racing, none of which was better than Cleopatras splendid victory in the Latonia Championship Stakes, or than Busy Signals triumph in the fast-run Latonia Oaks. Most of. the good judges have rated John P. Grier as second best to Man o War. Perhaps lie was, although he showed staleness in his last few, races. Still there could have been little in his favor over On Watch with both at thoir best. The following fifteen appear to be the pick of the year and, witli the exception of Man o War, should be a splendid reinforcement for our handicap division in the racing of 1921: Horse. Col. Sex.
