KING EDWARD TRACK HEAVY Winners Come from Unexpected Sources Main Race to Scdgegrass. MONTRKAL, tjiie., August 13. The initial days races at King Kdward Iark this afternoon were contested over a heavy but rapidly drying out track and. as a result, the winners iii several races came from unexpected sources. Scdgegrass found the going to her liking and she never left the issue in doubt in the King Kdward Purse, the fourth and feature attraction. Assumption as easily held Mar-mite safe for the place honors. As a result of her victory today Sedgegniss picks up a five-found penalty in hi; handicap to be run on Monday. Olive James came from behind in the stretch to bear Union II. in the sixth race, but the remaining winners scored by comparatively safe margins after practically leading throughout. Jockey W. Hinphy cn tried off the riding honors, piloting three winners, two of which, Starkader and Mildred, were saddled bv the veteran trainer J. J. Mc!iff..rty. Despite the threatening weather, the half holiday crowd swelled the attendance to over 5,000. J. K. Frnyling arrived here yesterday from Empire City with Master Karma. Kismet and Rerun r-dine. the properly of J. Smallwood, also W. II Ilendries Fancier and Frngo, and Frippery, the property of the Ialm Stable. Glenn was scratched from the sixth race :loday, as he was suffering from an attack of acute indigestion. J. Johnston has sold Encore to J. MeXlilty. He will be shipped to Quebec, along with Hay. W. Walsh, the local trainer, who handles an extensive public stable for Montreal owners, will depart on Tuesday for Quebec City. Jockey J. Smith will accompany the stable. J. Iialdwin and T. Walters will also ship to the ancient city course.
