RACING AN UNCERTAIN PROPOSITION SARATOGA, N. Y., August 19. "If anybody does not think that racing is an uncertain proposition at best, just let him take a look at the 1021 records of Prudery and Tryster," remarked trainer James Rowc of the Harry Payne Whitney stable. "When I left winter quarters last spring I had what I thought was the greatest stable of hoives that I ever trained, with the two mentioned as my principal reliances. Yet it was August 0 before Prudery won a race and Trysters first success was not recorded until Wednesday. "It is true that neither started often, but this only makes the sport all the more uncertain. I had planned that both would not only race regularly but would win many of the rich stakes throughout the spring and summer. Never once did I claim that it would be after August 1 before either horse won a race." Although they were late coming to their byst form, Rowe is confident that these two three-yoar-olds will make amends for their tardiness from now on. Prudery has the Miller and Alabama Stakes to her credit at the local meeting, while Tryster showed in his race Wednesday that he is ready for greater things.
