The total stakes distributed during the racing to dale in Great Britain and Ireland was 3. ii 10,050. Of this sum , 0.77,33." was allocated to events confined to two squads. .That means the youngsters which formed thirty-five per cent of the total runners took about thirty per cent of the prize money. Breeders in all parts of the world will therefore peruse with interest the statistics relating to the sires of two-year-old winners this year. It will be noted that White Eagle and Sunstar tie as to number of actual winners and that they also lead as to races won, with a big advantage in favor of the sen of Gallinule. Ionunern, Argos and Friar Marcus are the only young sires in the list whose offspring made their first appearance this season. Sire. Winners. Races. Value. It is somewhat surprising to find Spearmint at the top of the list. His winners are the filly Wild Mint, Marie Llcyd by Tredennis, and Spike Island. The latter is a long, low, deep girthed, powerful quartered colt of great possibilities. His dam is Molly Desmond, by Desmond, dam Pretty Polly. Two of the winners by White Eagle are from daughters of Orby. White Eagle has always been pretty well represented by juvenile winners. This year five of them are fillies, none the less valuable because White Eagle mares are already producing winners. lommerns first years winners are londoland, Unison. Fodder and Crab Apple. If rumor is to be believed there should be another in Mr. .7. S. Joels filly Laughter, which is by Ionunern Jest, dam of Humorist. Laughter i3 credited as being fourteen pounds better than Stupidity, the speedy filly by Polymelus or Sunstar. We must "wait and see"! Anyway, Pommcrn promises to make a big reputation as a sire. Lemberg comes in mainly through Lombach. Son-in-Law, by Dark Ronald, 1 lie sire of Ambassador and Drown Prince, was such a stayer that one hardly anticipated lie would shine as a sire of two-year-olds. His best winner is Scamp, which look the New Stakes at Ascot. Last year Sunstar was second in the list of juvenile sires with ten winners of 0,1S5. So far he has had four fillies and two colts. This list is sure to be extended. Polyhistor, which is a host in himself, is the only successful Polymelus two-year-old to date.
