LAURELS AUTUMN PROGRAM Three Stakes of 0,000 Added and Five of ,000 Added Included in Offerings. BALTIMORE. Md.. August 22. The fall program of the Maryland State Fair issued by president Spaulding Lowe Jenkins is an ambitious one. Included in it are three stakes with an added value of 0,000, five with ,000 added, and a steeplechase with ,000 added. There will be twenty-three days of racing on the Laurel track, commencing October. ! and closing October 20. There will be seven races on each racing day and liberal purses are provided for all the overnight races. The Annapolis Handicap is scheduled to be rim Saturday, October 8. This is a race at one and a half miles for three-yenr-olds and over with 0,000 added. The Annapolis was inaugurated in 1011 as a race for sprinters at three-quarters of a mile, its first winner being Hate Glass. In 1019 the distance was changed. Thunderclap going the present distance in 2:20:,.-,. Last years winner, John I. Orier, took one second longer to cover the distance. For Saturday. October 15, the Maryland Handicap will be the feature. This race is for three-year-olds, at a distance of one and one-quarter mile-:, with an added value of U,00. Founded in 1911 as a three-quarter mile race for two-year-olds it was subsequently changed to its present length, which is designed to test the stamina of the best three-year-olds in training. Sir Harton and Hlazes were its winners in 1919 and 1020, respectively, the former covering the distance in 2:02:;j. The third of the 0,000 adde.d specials is the Laurel Handicap, a one mile . race for all ages. It will bo decided on Saturday. October . Hlazes also won this event in 1020. The Porter., its 1919 winner, and Sir Harton being second and third respectively. The stakes having an added value of $..000 are: The Capital Handicap, a three-quarter mile dash for three-year-olds and over. To be run Tuesday, October 4. The Najipnal Stakeg, inaugurated in. 1012.. a race for two-year-oldsit three-quarters. This nice will be decided -on Wednesday. Oftobrr 12. The Manor Handicap, to be run Saturday, October "9, This race will be a severe test for the two-year old division, as it is .over a one mile route. The popular Chevy Chase Steeplechase for four-year-olds and over will feature the racing on Saturday, October S. This race will be over a distance of u bo ut two and one-half miles and has been an annual fixture of the Laurel meeting siuee 1911. The latuxeut "Steeplechase will be the special for Wednesday, October 20. This will be over a course of about two miles and is for three-year-olds and over. The Ticket of Leave Steeplechase for three-year-olds, about two miles, with ,000 added, is set for decision on Wednesday, October 10. This is the last of the specials and will be interesting as an index of the performances of the junior timber-toppers.
