LAST DAY AT DEVONSHIRE Crowd of 12,000 in Attendance Pumps and Sir Clarence Popular Winners. WINDSOR, Int.. September 3. Despite the intense beat a half-holiday crowd of about 12,0.00 people turned out to witness the concluding days racing of the Western Racing Association at Devonshire Park this afternoon. There was no special feature down for decision and the fields were a trifle smaller than during the earlier days of the meeting. A condition race for two-year-olds, run as the fourth, attracted most interest. Two of the six starters, Alva and Wessie It., were coupled as the Arthur entry and divided favoritism with Ogarite and Johnny Dundee. The Whitney-bred filly Humps, although a maiden, enjoyed a large following, anil rewarded her backers by winning in a style characteristic of such breeding. She is a daughter of that great speed marvel Whisk Broom II., , and seems to have inherited some of her daddys well-known ability to cover ground in the least possible time. Taking the lead rounding the turn she showed a clean pair of heels to her opponents and was never in danger thereafter. A dash for horses foaled in Canada opened the proceedings. Sir Clarence ran back to his previous good performance earlier in the week and was returned an easy winner after leading by a comfortable margin throughout. Following his victory Sir Clarence went to the stable of P. G. Christopher, represented in the race by Flame, on his Claim of .3,000. After his recent disappointing race in the mud Al found the fast going in his. favor today and ran past Fedora in the stretch to will the second race for maiden two-year-olds. The victory of Dantzic came as a surprise in the third in which he led throughout and returned a liberal dividend. The three-year-old Omer K. changed hands after the running of the concluding race yesterday, lie went to the stable of J. Phillips via the claiming route ,for ,100. C. J. Brockuiiller also deposited a claim for the Buxton horse but lost out. in the,, drove. Jockey ilolliiway suffered a bruised shoulder When he was unseated from Quickrun yesterday, and was tillable to ride today. Trainer Walter Heath of the Nevada Stock Farm Stable has changed his plans and in place of going to Thorncliffe Park. Toronto, will ship the entire band of seventeen head to Latonia, Ky. Of this number sixteen are two-year-olds. W. C. Weant. F. C. Marmet and N. K; Real will ship their stables to Thorncliffe Park on Monday. Jockey J. Huntaiuer. the promising apprentice, will depart for the same place. R, K. Watkins will ship his band of three head to Havre de Crate. Md., early next week. For an unsatisfactory ride on Vanessa Welles a ruling was issued by the judges following the running of the third race, denying all privileges, including admission to the track to jockey J. H. ISurke. Judge J. F. Mor.ck of Hamilton, has accepted office as one of the stewards during the meeting at Mexico City. Judge Joseph A. Murphy, James Arthur. C R. Rryson, H. Oots . and G. II. Keenc will attend an important meeting to be held in ! Cincinnati on Tuesday next in connection witli the coming winter gathering at the Mexican course.
