H. P. WHITNEY STABLES HARD LUCK NEW YORK, X. Y., September 3. The II. P. Whitney establishment continues to suffer from a run of hard luck. During the running of the Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga Wednesday, Bunting and Calamity Jane, two of the stables representatives, were jumped upon and badly cut about the legs. As u result of the injuries neither of the youngsters will be seen under colors, it is. thought, until they report to fulfill their engagements in the Futurity, trainer James Rowe stated yesterday. . Calamity Jane was the more severely injured of the two. She was badly jumped upon and several severe wounds were opened. She bled profusely. Bunting found himself iii close quarters through most of the; running and cut himself severely about the forelegs. Trainer Whitney lias decided that all the Whitney starters in the future will he ridden by L. Penman, the stables contract jockey.
