BONIFACE AND BILLY KELLY Score Double Victory for J. K. L. Ross Before Record Crovd at Blue Bonnets. MONTREAL, Que., September 3. Rlue Ronnets opened this afternoon with one of the largest crowds that ever passed through the gates of the picturesque course. The card was an exceptionally good one, the special features being the Lord Ryng Handicap and the Hendrie Memorial Steeplechase. In the premier event of the afternoon the stable of Commander J. K. L. Ross was much in the limelight and furnished both the winner and the placed horse in Boniface and Registrar, while the light-weighted Padua was third. The performance of the winner was a splendid one, the courageous Boniface conceding much weight to his opponents to win by a small margin. Registrar was the one to set the early pace and raced Padua into early defeat and Erickson being satisfied that Boniface would be returned the winner, did not punish the three-year-old through the final eighth. Rilly Kelly accounted for the handicap at three-quarters of a mile and scored the first of the double for the Ross establishment. The start was a poor one, but Claver got Rilly Kelly away from the barrier with a rush and the popular racer showed the way throughout and stood off a determined challenge from Kstero in a hard driving finish. The latter was away sluggishly and gradually made up ground, but was unequal to the task of overtaking the leader, although pressing him closely at the end. The Hendrie Memorial Steeplechase, which brought a small field to the iost, resulted in a spectacular battle, and Mrs. Ambrose Clark supplied the winner in Minata. The latter was crowded off the course between the eighteenth and nineteenth jumps, but came again and Corouado. the leader from the start, could not resist the closing challenge of Mrs. Clarks splendid steeplechaser. The racing was of a formful order and the public had a good line on the different starters, and short priced winners was the rule. Larry Daly, who has taken over the horses that his father.
