WHITNEY THE LEADING WINNING OWNER CAREFUL HEADS THE HORSES The annual October race meeting of the Maryland State Fair at the picturesque Laurel course in J Anne Arundel county, Maryland, which is about twenty miles from Baltimore, enjoyed in a full measure the success that racing in general has met in that state this year. Beginning on October 4, the Laurel meeting continued for twenty-three racing days, ending on October 19. During that time there were 101 races decided and 16,153 distributed in stakes and purses, the daily average distribution being 3,745. With a majority of the best eastern stables and the best eastern horses taking part, the racing was naturally of a high standard. Nine stake features of substantial values were offered and brought together some of the real stars of the different divisions. Great crowds were in attendance and some glorious racing was witnessed. , P t in a at s r n v a " 1 I I t t 1 1 1 " j 1 , ! ! ! ; 1 : ! i I s !
