BIG SPANISH RACE TO SELLING PLATER A selling plater won the Grand Prix of San Se-bastien this year. The big Spanish racing feature fell .to Le Friand. This neeond rate horse was one of Jean Sterns string of racers three years ago. He was one of that band of unforgetable horses which included Xouvel An, Dole, Clioix de Roi, La Roisselle, Tlielns. Consul and others which won so much money for their owner in Spain. He won a selling race for Stern three years ago. He was a slow starter, however. After his first victory lie was claimed by Miss de la Casta, the youngest owner in Spain twelve years of age, to be exact. Her father, the Marquis of Aalderas, did not think much of the purchase and, after several races in which the horse showed himself of a nasty temper at the barrier, he disposed of him for ,200 to "Peru" Liens, for whom he won twenty times Unit amount. In the Grand Prix, Le Friand had the advantage of a light impost since he had never before won a big stake. In addition to that he found the field depleted since all of the Spanish cracks were either out of racing for the season or else racing in foreign lauds. Le Friand therefore- was the victor, although it must be admitted th.it he had t lie additional advantage of a much better ride than that given his closest pursuer. Albauo. Forearm ran like a horse sitolled for flat racing by the jumping game. He seemed to lack that burst of speed so necessary for a racer on the flat. ; 1 1 ; ; ; j . 1 . . I I r - L : r
