SHAW AND A "CONSCIENCE" PAYMENT HAVANA. Cuba, February "8.— Peculiar things happen around a race track, but Tom Shaw, one of the biggest bookmakers operating on the American turf, encountered an experience one day last week at the Fair Grounds at New Orleans "which probably he will, jot in his diary as an experience not to be forgotten. When Shaw leached the Fair Grounds on the day in question he started checking tin- accounts of the previous day. He was suddenly confronted by a strange man. who pladed a blank envelope in Shaws hand and then disappeared. On Spearing the envelope Shaw found three |1,SM bills and a note which read: "Years ago I cheated you out of ,000. My conscience has hurt me anil I am returning the money. Please dont inquire who it is." Shaw does not know- who the person is and was unable to recall the lost? of ?3.00.
