PARIS, France, April 16. — The Prix du President de la Republique Steeplechase, which must not be confused with the flat race of that name run at St. Cloud during the summer, was decided today at Auteuil before an immense crowd. The President de la Republique Steeplechase is a handicap at three miles for horses four years old and over, having a value of 5,000 added, and a gold cup value of 00. A field of fifteen horses faced the starter and the race resulted as follows : J. Cabarrys Heros, b. h, 5, by Korlaz — Haute- feuille, by Roitelet, 171 Mitchell 1 M. A. Eknayans Corot. b. c, 4, by Sweeper — Idoine II., by Gouvernail 2 Damon Beags b. g, 9, Menander — I-ady Olton, by Sir Reginald 3 It was a spectacular race and was not decided until after clearing the last obstacle. Waterford fell, but horse and rider escaped serious injury. Weather conditions were glorious, with the Easter sun shining brightly. Among the thousands of spectators many Americans were noticeable, including Mrs. J. K. L. Ross and Frank Hitchcock. The Prix Le Gourzy, a three-mile steeplechase with ,000 added, was won by J. E. Wideners Pendennis, b. h, 5, by Rabelais — Confection, by Isinglass, _ — a 9
