I , i I i I • REGALS FIRST WINNER Filly by Young Stallion From Young Mare Scores in Her First Start. LONDON, England, April 4.— It frequently, • happens that a stallions first runner is a winner the first time out. It is often the case that a mares first foal wins its first race. It is, however, much more r;ire that a stallions first representative to run is the first produce of a young mare, and that such animal should make a successful first appearance. This applies, however, to the chestnut filly I 1920 by Regal — Lady Randy, by Simon Square. She ran away with a two-year-old race at Lingfield in the second week of the season. Lady Randy won races up to five years old in 1918. Regal is one of the youngest sons of Desmond. There were three foals by him in 1920. Regal was bred and is still owned by Mr. R. S. Sievier. He won twice on the flat over a mile and a half and two miles, so obviously was a stayer. His dam, Cigarette, is a half-sister to Teofani, which bred Monarch and Royal Bucks. Regals fee is the modest one of 3. but then his turf record was far from dazzling, so he has to make his way, as have so many sons of Desmond, which have eventually done well at the stud. a 1
