For a Monday the program offered was quite above the ordinary. The "principal attractions wore the Newberry Parse of ,000, at one mile and seventy yards, and V e Montana Purse of ,i?0i for three-year-olds, at three-quarters. Commander J. K. L. Rosa furnished the winner of the Newberry Purse when Registrar triumphed over the veteran Valor in a spirited finish. The s:art was a good cr.e, with Rubien away in front and setting the pace. Valor waa In closest pursuit, while Turner, on Registrar, was content to race along in a favorable position with the it ss color bearer under restraint. This order w :is maintained until entering the stretch, where Rubien crave way to the speed of Valor ;liu1 Langs vigorous riding. Turner then called on Registrar and the Ross colt, responding with a terrific rush, was soon at Valors side. On through the final eighth the pair raced, stride for stride, and not until the h:st few strides was Registrar able to gain.
