— •■ HOW HUMPTV JJUMPTV MISSED LONDON, England, April 11.— A rather curious coincidence with which your carre-spoBdent had some personal connection occurred at the Derby spring meeting. On the first day Humpty Dumpty, with 1 14 pounds on his back, won ihn one mile !• w-ridge Handicap, worth ,850 to the winner, lb: finished a comfortable one and one half lengths in front of King Gearges colt, Will Somc:r, with twelve others behind him. On the st-cond day the Derbyshire Handicap of ,100 to the winner fell to Ease Alarm, which won by a couple of lengths. Ha is the only sr n of his sire, Rattleiack, in training. Ho Is the first foal of White Lie, the dam of Poisoned Arrow. Quite recently I was asked to find a good colt t- r:o to South America. False Alarm WSS offered, but had to be rejected without veterinary examination, as he was net a suitable type of horse for the purpose desired. Humpty Dumpty had to be rejected because on close inspection the veterinary surgeon found one slight fault; otherwise the colt WSS exactly the sort of horse re-quircd. It is quite sure that had the South American seeker seen the horso he would have bought him and "chanced" the fault The risk, however, was too great for an rt to assume, and Xapolyon was eventually purchased and shipped to Rio, from Liverpool, in the mark and gloom on the Grand National evening. Humpty Dumpty baa sir.ee been acQSlred by .lames White from his trainer, Cottrill, who owned him, and he won in Mr. Whites colors at Derby.
