CONNAUGfiT PARK OPENING Racing at Ottawa Begins ioday Under Favorable Conditions Excellent Inaugnral Program Pro ¬ vided Lord Byng Honorary President of the Club OTTAWA Ont May 29 The spring meet ¬ ing under the auspices of the Connaught Park Jockey Club will be ushered in to ¬ morrow afternoon with a card of seven races The Jubilee Purse has been allotted the fea ¬ ture position of the inaugural program A field of six has been named through the entry box for the race The Oxford Purse for two yearolds and a steeplechase for fouryear olds and over at two miles are the other special attractions for opening day On the whole the fields are well balanced and some excellent racing should result resultTlie Tlie plant one of the most picturesque in Canada has been refurbished for the meet ¬ ing and presents a pleasing view to the eye The stands and other Inclosures have been iven a liberal coat of paint while the other buildings have been freshened up The track proper is in good condition and has been worked on in a diligent manner Private trials by horses which have been quartered here for some time indicates that some fast racing is in prospect prospectThe The stables from Toronto which arrived yesterday shipped in good condition and no sickness was reported Several carloads of horses are en route from Montreal made up of the property of different owners A mis ¬ understanding over telephonic conversation delayed the Montreal shipment which should have left yesterday yesterdayWeather Weather conditions this morning bordered on the midsummer variety and weather probabilities for the remainder of the week presage sunshine The important stables which raced over the Woodbine track ar ¬ rived here yesterday and included the horses of J K L Ross Seagram Stable Brook dale Stable Edward F Whitney George M Hendrie Foxhead Mews Ben Holmes EL J Salt C K Harrison Jr L T Bauer P G Christopher and others othersWilliam William Shea and George Clioos from Bel mont Park and W A Burttschell from Bal ¬ timore arrived today The early arrivals from Montreal included W D Bernhardt J Hope Allen Bucroft D Raymond E H Davis E E Major and others othersThe The riding colony is headed by Clarence Turner and A Claver The latter headed the list of winning riders at Woodbine for J K L Ross C Thompson and P Walls for the Seagram Stable H Erickson A Gantner W Warrington J Chalmers S Boyle F Chiavetta E Harbourne and many others are included includedHis His Excellency Lord Byng of Yimy gov ¬ ernorgeneral of Canada honorary president of the Connaught Park Jockey Club wilr attend the races daily accompanied by mem ¬ bers of his staff His excellency lias decided to attend the races informally and will wit ¬ ness the running from the royal box in the clubhouse inclosure Parliamentarians and foreign dignitaries have reserved boxes for the meeting and the outlook is for a very cheerful one the best since the club was organized organizedThe The meeting is one of the social events of the capital and arrangements for dinners and luncheons in the club house have already been completed completedJ J G Gorman has taken over jockey W Warrington and the lad will do the heavy riding for the Gorman stable stableStarter Starter Harry Morrissey arrived from To ronto this morning while Messrs Campbell and McLennan arrived yesterday yesterdayJ J G Gorman disposed of the gelding De ¬ moniac to Edward Seagram who will use the former racer as a saddle horse
