HEADS I WIN, TAILS YOU LOSE The Australasian tells a good story about the mutuels. At Randwick the pool of a state race amounted to 5,230, but 4,050 of the tickets sold were all for the same horse. After the usual deductions the pool paid out .37 for each .50 ticket purchased on the winner a net loss of thirteen cents on each ticket.
