CONFIRMS WHISKAWAY SALE Only Transfer of Colt and Purchase Price Remain to Conclude Deal, Says Trainer Barnes. SARATOGA SPRINGS. N. Y., August 5. That C. W. Clark is under the impression that Whiskaway, winner of the 0,000 added Kentucky Special, has been added to his stable was shown today when George V. Barnes, his t miner, received a cablegram from him in France, instructing him to start the colt in the Miller Stakes. Trainer James Rowe still has the son of Whisk Broom II. Inaugural in his possession, but it is probable that he will join the Clark establishment within a short period. Trainer Barnes was surprised to learn that there was doubt as to the sale of the good three-year-old, upon his arrival here from Kentucky today. "Mr. Clark made Harry Payne Whitney an offer for the colt running into six figures immediately after he won the Kentucky Special at Latonia," said Barnes, "and there has never been a hitch on the price. Mr. Whitney informed him that he was willing to sell the colt, following an examination of him. to be made by any trainer that my employer should name, accompanied by a veterinarian. Mr. Clark advised him that lie would lake the horse on his word that he is sound. This proposition is suitable to myself as well as Mr. Clark, and trainer James Rowe evidently concurs in it. judging from the talk that I had with him. "The only thing remaining to conclude the sale is for Rowe to turn the horse over to me as the money is at hand for the asking. I am positive that Mr. Clark is of the opinion that Whiskaway is in my care now and I am further certain that he will be within a few hours." Before leaving Kentucky Barnes purchased the Ten Broeck Farm of 200 acres, just outside of Louisville. It is his intention to make it one of the best breeding establishments in the Blue Grass state.
