STALLION SEA KING IS DEAD Thomas F. Ryan Loses Valuable English-Bred Sire After Shipping Him to Kentucky. LEXINGTON, Ky., Steptember 4. Thomas Fortune Ryans noted stallion Sea King died today at Beaumont Farm of acute inflammation following an operation performed by Doctors Ed W. Hagyard and Frazer A. Smith, whereby there was removed from the urinary channel calculi hard bony substance weighing over two ounces and larger than a pigeons egg, which had formed in and passed from the bladder. The horse, which had arrived here from Oakridge Stud, Virginia, Friday along with a dozen mares and seven foals, all in charge of Charles McCracken, became distressed Sunday, and Dr. Smith answered the call for veterinary assistance. He made an examination that located the trouble and called Dr. Hagyard for the operation that followed. Neither of the veterinarians at the time of the operation had hope for the recovery of the seventeen-year-old son of Persimmon and Sea Air, by Isonomy, because they were fearful that inflammation would set in, the channel having been very much irritated by the calculi. Dr. Hagyard stated that this is the third case of the kind he has had in his long practice. Mr. Ryan was notified by telegraph of the necessity for the operation and also of the death of the horse, which Mr. McCracken stated was insured. Six of the seven foals brought here by Mr. McCracken are by Sea King, they being as follows: Chestnut colt brother to Bantry Pass, from Puff, by Gordon; chestnut colt, from Ruby Nethersole, by Star Ruby; bay colt, from Maiden Hair, by Trap Rock; chestnut filly sister to Sea Mint, from Mintless, by Minting; brown filly, from Ausander, by Coriander, from a half-sister to Star Shoot, and chestnut filly, from Alverida, by Fair Play. The seventh foal is a bay filly, by Wknck Wave dam of Drogheda, by Seeking.
