RESETS AT PHOENIX PARK Rabonas Victory Assures Her Irish Two-Year-Old Championship Bachelors Fort Lucky. DUBLIN, Ireland, August 21. Though the attendance on Friday was below the average, it was compensated for by the huge crowd that witnessed Saturdays racing. As at the opening day at Phoenix Park the conditions were ideal, and the valuable two-year-old race, which has always been a feature of the Horse Show meeting at this venue, apparently was again responsible for the big attendance. There were thirteen j runners for it, and so open did the event appear that nine of the horses were well backed. It was a good start, the only sufferer being Melra, which was herself to blame, as she refused to break with the others. In the early part of the race Rabona and Zanoni were the leading pair, and when the former swerved and spoiled his chance about the distance, King Dennis moved up past Rabona. Finishing gamely, however, the latter won by a neck. The daughter of Roi Herode has been a consistent runner all the season, and this race makes her out the champion two-year-old, though on a stiffer course like the Curragh Zanoni would probably beat her. BACHELORS FORT WINS BY NECK. Bachelors Fort was backed as a certainty for the Blanchardstown Plate, but as matters turned out she was extremely lucky to win. Cavalry Trot headed her two furlongs from the end, and it was only in the last couple of strides that she was up again to win by a neck. The outsider, Doiran, won the Selling Plate in easy style, and wras subsequently bought in for 50. The Country Plate proved an open betting affair, and was won by one of the favorites, Rathmore. Ireland Green disappointed his connections in the Castlcnock Plate, which fell an easy prey to Lady of the Loch, which at Navan finished second to Carthage. There was a great finish for the Knockmaroon Plate between A. B. C. and Santa Decca, and it was only ?n the last stride that the former was up to win by a short head. The threatening appearance of the early morning doubtless kept many people away from Phoenix Park on opening day, the attendance being much below the usual standard. The weather, however, turned out better than anticipated, and an interesting afternoons sport was provided. Minniement, which was the medium of a plunge when beaten by World Peace at Baldoyle, made amends by Avinning the Greenmount Plate from a field of eight ers. She was in front from start to finish and never looked like being tackled by anything. ASHTOWN FAYORITE DISAPPOINTS. Jabbitore, the favorite for the Ashtown Plate, had every chance to win if good enough, but, after leading for three-eighths, died out altogether, and Noisy, running out his race gamely, won in easy style. There was no bid for the winner at the subsequent auction. The Clonsilla Plate provided a great finish between Fairy Lass and Whitenza, the pair running home and almost in line for the last eighth, and the verdict in favor of Fairy Lass was only a short head. Bon Secour, at several points of the race, looked like giving trouble, but did not "put it all in" at the critical stage and was relegated to fourth place, while Levandale, after making a bold show for over a quarter, dropped out of the race completely toward the finish. Tomtoi had an easy task to win the Park Plate, in which his opponents were of inferior class, and the probability is that in purchasing him subsequently for ,250 Mr. C. T. Wallis secured a bargain. Rouken Glen and Fair Ionian fought out a great finish for the Whitefields Plate. The former was up in the last stride to win by a short head, and in the Somerton Plate the outsiders Game Creek and Revolmine also had a great set-to before the former won by a head.
