-9 HORSEMANS VIEW OF I SELLING RACE RULES NEW YORK, N. T., September 8. The text of the proposed amendments to the rule governing selling races, which is to be submitted by petitioning horsemen to the Jockey Club, was announced at Belmont Park today. The horsemen will petition the Jockey Club to amend rule 172 to read as follows: "172a. Every horse running in a selling race may be claimed by anyone in good standing previous to the running of the race for his entered price, plus the value of the race. "172b. A horse so claimed shall run in the interests of the owner who entered him in the race, but shall become the property of the owner claiming him, regardless of his condition after the running." The horsemen will also petition that rule 173 shall be amended to read as follows: "173a. All claims shall be in writing and accompanied by the amount of the claim In cash, if so required, and shall be deposited in a locked box provided for that purpose. "173b. AH claims must be deposited in the claiming box fifteen minutes previous to the running of the race, when the time of the claiming shall cease and the box be closed. "173c. The claim box shall be opened by the stewards immediately after the running of the race and in case of conflicting claims the decision shall be by lot."
