MERLE, well ridden and under restraint for the first half mile, moved up with a rush in the stretch and took the lead in the last seventy yards to win going away. JAMES B. BROWN raced forwardly from thestart and held on gamely in the final drive. ORLOVA came from far back in the last quarter. BELLE OF ELIZABETHTOWN set a fast pace and tired in the last sixteenth. LEE showed the most early speed, but was tiring in the last eighth. MISS COLLETTE finished gamely and outstayed TEDS PLUM. The latter tired badly in the stretch. DAPPER DAN raced poorly.
