The field which started in this race at a mile and a sixteenth was a well-balanced one and Bunga Buck on the strength of his last race, lii which he met with unloolced for racingill luck, was installed first choice. There was but little delay at the barrier and the field was sent away in good alignment- Rowan elected to take Comic Song to the front and readily drew away into a commanding lead. Top Sergeant was in second position next to the inside rail, while Butwell had the favorite under restraint in close striking distance. Top Sergeant began J to drop back round the far turn, while Bunga Buck came around the leader. Fairway, which stumbled slightly at the start and recovered quickly under the top weight, moved up fast. Butwell urged Bunga Buctc to the front and the son of Vulcaln drew away into a commanding lead and was under slight restraint at the finish. Fairway closed resolutely and disposed of Comic Song, but could not get to the winner. INDIAN STT3IMER RETURNS. There was a return to Indian summer weather this afternoon and as a result a much larger crowd was on hand. Fields of well balanced racing material started in eacn race and despite the lack of outstanding class interesting sport was rurnlshed, the majority of the winners scoring after sustaining hard drives. The public had a profitable afternoon, as the majority of the winners were accorded hearty support. Harry Payne Whitneys Rialto was an easy winner in the first race of the afternoon when he came from behind and had a safe advantage over the Quincy Stables Carol, while third place fell to W. S. Kilmers Sweep Hawk. The winner was ridden by Keogh, Who was content to rate off the early pace Bet by Carol. The latter displayed a high order of early speed, but was unequal to the task of stalling off the winner when challenged. Keogh called upon Rialto when settled in the stretch and in a short sixteenth of a mile the son of Chicle had assumed the lead and at the end had a five lengths advantage. W. P. Burchs McKenna showed the most speed in a five and a half furlong dash this "afternoon and in a driving finish earned an impressive victory from G. W. J. Bissells Champlain, while L. T. Bauers Tippity Witchet was third. This contest brought out a speedy band and Tippity Witchet was in- 1 stalled the favorite, while McKenna was second choice. The start was a fast one and McLane immediately rushed into the lead and remained there throughout. Minute Man began to tire and McKenna drew away into a safe lead. When settled in the stretch Champlain moved up in men- acing style, while Tippity Witchet came around the field. The winner hung to his task with good courage and at the end held Champlain safe while the Bauer gelding was going fastest of all at the end. HAIDEES RATTLING FINISH. A rattling finish came with the running of the third race which was for two-year-olds at three-quarters and the winner turned up in the Sunnyland Stables Haidee from G. W. J. Bissells Water Girl, while E. F. Whitneys Radiant was third. J. McTaggart, who rode Water Girl lodged a claim of foul following the running, but it was not allowed. Radiant was the one to show in front at the start and she was soon joined by Haidee, while Tassel was in third place with Belle of Blue Ridge, the popular choice, back in the ruck. Swinging for home Haidee made a wide turn and Water Girl came through next to the inner rail. McTaggart was in close quarters and could, not find racing room. Radiant, after showing early speed, was bearing out through the final eighth and carried . Tassel a trifle wide with him.
