SPONGING MISCREANT AT WORK AT AQUEDUCT AQUEDUCT, N. Y., September 26. Another case of sponging was averted early this morning, when it was found thai Tufter, in the stable of H. Alterman, had his nose stuffed with a big sponge. Dr. R. W. Mc-Culley was called in and, after removing the sponge, made an examination of the horse and pronounced that he was perfectly fit to be started. Trainer Sietas was called before the stewards when he arrived at the track and he reported the happening. He said that he arrived at the stable at 6 oclock in the morning and that he had been told of the sponging of the horse before he reached the stable. He could not name any member of his stable force that he would suspect of the outrage, but a thorough investigation is being conducted.
