RUNNING OFF DEAD HEATS Dead heats in races are infrequent occurrences on the American turf, as the records of the last few years disclose. There wore two in 1921, the same number in 1920, one in 1919, one in 1917.- two in 1910. six in 1914, four in 1913, five in 1912 and six in 1911. As for the running off of a dead heat, as took place at Latonia yesterday, the last previous case was at San Antonio, Tex., on December 21, 1908. when, after Sam G. and Mattie D. had deadheated in the third race of the day, the dead heat was run off and Sam G. won easily by four lengths. In the olden days it was the usual thing to run off all dead heats.
