PLANS FOR THE WINTER Kentucky Horsemen Arranging for Winter Campaigns. Movement to Havana First to Get Under -"Way Shipment Leaving Latonia November 7. CINCINNATI, Ohio, October 21. With the end of the Latonia racing season not far off horsemen are busily engaged arranging their plans for the long winter months. A considerable number of the larger racing establishments will go into winter quarters, while others will engage in a campaign on the various winter tracks. The latter afford horsemen abundant opportunity to make expenses and something extra to tide them over the cold months. There will be quite a number of stables that will participate in the Dade Park meeting that opens the Wednesday following the shut-down at Latonia, but the majority will scatter to other points, with Havana, New Orleans, Tijuana and San Francisco as their objective points. The movement to Havana will be the first to get under way when the special horse train for Oriental Park will pull out of the Latonia yards the morning of Tuesday, November 7. This train, according to Charles IL Lansdale, in charge of the shipment, will be the biggest consignment mat ever left this country for foreign shores. The shipment will include quite a large number of horses that have been showing winning form at Latonia. Among the stables represented will be those of Williams Brothers, W. F. Knebelkamp, George M. Hendrie, Keene Brothers, Dan Lehan, S. T. Baxter, H. E. Swan, W. A. McKinnsy, John Lowe, J. H. Moody and Frank Lector. Kay Spence may decide to send a few of the Monfort Jones string. In addition to the horses that Pete Williams and W. F. Knebelkamp will send from Latonia there are a number that will be added to these stables when the shipment reaches Havana. These additions comprise the horses that were turned out at Guayabel Stock Farm, near Havana, last spring. According to advices received from Roger Min-ton, in charge of the farm, these horses Continued on second page. PLANS FOR THE WINTER Continued from first page. have summered in good condition and have already been moved over to Oriental Park to be placed in training. The AVilliams band includes AViseman, Captain Reese, Harold K., Position, Orris, Pandean and Ostelie. The Knebelkamp outfit includes Kildarc Boy, Memphis, Acosta and Harry Glover. According to Manager Minton twenty-five other horses remain on the farm, and these will be sent to Oriental Park as soon as their different owners arrive from northern points. Minton further reports that -fifteen brood mares, all of which have foaled,- have been bred back to Solomon, Sweep Clean, Driffield, Truant and Kildarc Boy. Other departures of special horse trains bound for Havana will include one from Toledo, whicli will depart immediately following the meeting there, and will include the stables of M. J. Daly, J. F. Hines, Tom Doyle, Dee Hammond, John Hope, IT. W. Barnes, W. Cedar, Blair Mock, R. Morrison, M. E. Thompson, N. K. Moody, F. R. Doyle, S. Jones, T. B. Waters, J. W. Pangle, C. F. Place, A. O. Smith, B. B. Rice, J. Kraus, AV. Short, J. E. Nagle and J. U. Strode. The shipment from New York will be an extensive one and will leave the Empire City track November 1. Included in the stables will be those of W. R. Coe, in charge of Kenneth Karrick; Willie Dugan, J. D. Millin, W. E. Suggs, A. Tempest, R. Troxler, J. Coffey, F. W. Alexander, H. McLaughlin and W. Egan. The Lillian Stable, in charge of Frany Bray, will also be included in the shipment. The consignment from Akron is scheduled to leave about October 31, and will carry the stables of E. E. Major, AV. O. Stoncr, C. Drake, J. Arvin, J. W. Pinkham. R. Padget, H. Dougherty, J. A. Parson, AV. E. Martin and J. Carney. B. A. Jones, the Missouri breeder, has arranged to ship fifteen yearlings and horses in training from his Parnell ranch to Havana November 15. The youngsters are all by Seth, a stallion that sired many two-year-old winners at Havana last year.
