KNOBBIE AND SANDE Prove Winning Combination in Class A Graded Handicap. Blazes and Athelstan Victorious in the Class B and Class C Handicaps. BALTIMORE, Md., November S. Three graded handicaps, classified as A, B and C, were down for decision at Pimlico this afternoon as the fifth, sixth and seventh races, respectively. The Class A dash engaged the best field in quality but not in quantity and the Rancocas Stable recorded a double victory when Knobbie, ridden by E. Sande, was returned the winner in a ridiculously easy manner from J. K. L. Ross Baby Grand, while the Glen Riddle Farms Dinna Care was third. Irish Kiss, racing for the Sunny-land Stable was fourth and last. A field of seven had been named overnight, but three declined. Trainer Hildreth decided to withdraw Little Chief at the last minute and Knobbie was left to sport the familiar green and white. The race was started at the sixteenth post and starter Milton had no trouble with the field, which left in good alignment and at the first try. Knobbie was the first to show in front, while Dinna Care Legai i sluggishly. Marinelli, on the latter, was guilty of bad judgment when he rushed Dinna Care extremely wide rounding the first turn and as a result he lost considerable j ground. Knobbie raced under restraint in his wake, while Baby Grand was heading Irish j Kiss. -Dinna Care again lost ground rounding the second turn and was kept under pressure to retain the lead. Sande allowed Knobbie to gain steadily through the backstretch and at the bend drew away into the lead when he was taken under restraint to win by a safe margin. Baby Grand had but little difficulty in disposing of Dinna Care for second place. There was a touch of autumn in the air this afternoon, although bright skies dis-1 pelled the fog which hovered over this section yesterday. The track had dried out rapidly and was in good condition. Athelstan, after several attempts in these ; parts, made good in convincing fashion in ; the closing race, which was styled the Class C, and at the end had a wide margin over Dream of Allah, while Bromelia was third. The winner was ridden by Butwell, moved up to the leaders rounding the turn and then drew away to score easily. Dream of Allah worked her way up on the inside, but she could never overtake the winner, while Bromelia tired badly at the end. BLAZES SHOWS OLD FORM. J. S. Cosden furnished the winner of the Class B Handicap when Blazes, which dominated the running from the start, had but little trouble in holding his opponents over the mile distance and winning by a safe margin from the Xalapa Farm Stables John Paul Jones, with P. S. P. Randolphs King Albert third. The field which faced the starter was dispatched to a good start and Kummer immediately went to the front with Blazes, while Despair, Modo and John Paul Jones raced in that order and the others badly strung out; Blazes stole away into a safe lead when settled on the backstretch and Despair had given way to the Xalapa Farm Stables John Paul Jones. The latter moved up in a threatening manner rounding the bend, but tired when the crucial test came and quit badly, although holding King Albert safe. Maidens of all ages faced the barrier in the opening race and the Triple Springs Farm Stables Wilkes-Barre graduated in impressive style, finishing ahead of J. E. Maddens Pay Dear and H. Altermans Homestretch. The winner left the barrier with a rush and drew away into a long lead. Pay Dear began slowly and was rushed around the others, but raced in closest pursuit of the leader. Wilkes-Barre was taken back after the field had gone half the distance and was rated along under slight restraint. Pay Dear moved up with a menacing rush at the stretch turn, but could not overtake Wilkes-Barre when the latter was called on in the stretch. Homestretch came with a rush at the end and finished fast. JUG EL BEATS STABLEMATE. The Rancocas Stable entered Rigel and "Whirlwind in the three-quarters dash for two-year-olds and they finished one-two in a hard drive from E. R. Bradleys Boys Believe Me, while J. E. Maddens Best Love was fourth. The start was delayed for a considerable time and Harry Payne "Whitneys Spot Cash was the one responsible for the delay. When the field was finally dispatched Boys Believe Me dashed to the front and was quickly joined by Whirlwind. The latter was sent into the lead before the Continued on eighth pace. , , KNOBBIE AND SANDE Continued from first page. field had gone a qu:rter of a mile, when Rigel worked his way to the leaders. Entering the stretch turn Whirlwind still held the advantage, although Rigel was lapped on him, while Boys Believe Me was leading Best Love. In a hard drive through the final sixteenth of a mile Rigel wore down his stablemate and earned the decision by a nose. The proverbial blanket would have covered the quartet as they raced passed the judges, with Best Love going fastest of all. Ral Parrs Sea Master was an easy winner of the Elkridge Steeplechase, - at two miles, from J. E. Davis Reparation, while the Malvern Hill Farm Stables Chuckle was third. The winner was ridden by Crawford and was probably much the best of his opponents. He was rated off the early pace cut out by Happy Chances, but overhauled the latter with a rush going through the second turn of the field. Happy Chances fell at the twelfth jump and at the same time interfered with Sea Master, knocking the latter back. The Parr starter recovered quickly and readily drew away. Reparation had no serious opposition from Chuckle for second place. A division of the first race was run as the fourth, which was for maidens of all ages, and the winner turned up in the Ascot Stables Al Boyd, in a drive from Walter J. Salmons El Dorado, while J. MacManus Jacqueline Julian was third. The winner was ridden by Marinelli and was much the best in the race, for he was carried wide by El Dorado at the top of the turn and came again to wear the Salmon filly down in the final strides. Samuel Lewis took War Victor and Knight of the Heather from A. C. Bostwick, the former for ,380 and the latter for ,-750, following theirr espective races yesterday. The clerks in the mutuel department increased their donation to the Childrens Memorial Hospital from 50 to 00 and an additional 00 was donated to the American Red Cross. The Sacred Heart church of Mount Washington also received a donation of 00. J. W. Healy, acting for A. C. Bostwick, purchased the two-year-old filly Tassel from Woods Garth at private terms this morning. Gwyn Tompkins will leave for Warrentoa, Va., on Saturday to complete arrangements prior to shipping the Glen Riddle Farm horses to winter quarters at Berlin, Md. Dinna Care will be the last horse to be seen under colors for Mr. Riddle this year. He started this afternoon. James Fitzsimmons will ship a division of the Quincy stable horses to Aqueduct on Sunday and the remainder to Bowie to campaign at that point. J. P. Smith has decided to add the sprinter Mercury to the dispersal sale on November 10, and in future devote his entire attention to the stable of J. W. Bean, the Washington owner. W. G. Wilson will ship the stable of steeplechasers he has here to Toronto on Sunday, where they will go into winter quarters at Woodbine Park. J. W. Healey will add Spot Cash to the stable that he will ship west on Sunday to Tijuana, which will be raced in the Whitney colors.
