Star Shoots Wonderful Record Notwithstanding the fact that Star Shoot one of Americas more famous sires died on November 19 1919 his numerous sturdy sons and daughters are keeping fresh in memory the name and fame of their noted daddy They raced so wel and successfully last year that Star Shoots name appeared among the thirty leading sires of 1922 as it has for the last seventeen years in itself a marvelous record Star Shoot was the premier sire of this country five times a record unequaled by any other American sire except the immortal Lexington which was the leader sixteen times Star Shoot also finished second three times and third twice During the eighteen years that the progeny of Star Shoot have appeared on the race tracks of the United j States Canada Cuba and Mexico collectively they have started in 13886 races of which they have won 2080 races and 1755793 in stakes and purses a record unsurpassed in the annals of American racing racingStar Star Shoot was considered about the best cf his year when a twoyeareld in England in 1900 but was injured and could do nothing effective when a threeyearold starting twice and running unplaced on both occasions He was sold at hat age for export to this country A grandlybred young horse and a son of one of the greatest race horses that ever wore a bridle Star Shoot was acquired by John E Madden and long reigned as the premier sire of his widely known Hamburg Place Stud There he was given the pick of that establishments wonderful band of carefullyselected brood mares the preference being fully justified by results He has sent into American racing scores of fleet hardy and enduring racers of both sexes and in the long run exerted a profound influence on our bloodstock breeding It is one of the singularities of his stud career that by far the best racers he has ever sired Sir Barton and Grey Lag made iheir appearance when Star Shoot was blind and in old age as horss life goes He was foaled in 1898 and bred by Captain Eustace Loder as the result of mating the Hermit inare Astrology with the mighty Isinglass IsinglassThe The first of Star Shoots progeny appeared in our racing in 1905 and including that year the tabulation following shows what his big and steadilygrowing family has done in American racing up to and including that of 1922 It is a wonderful record Totals 18 13886 7990 1755793
