Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of February 20 1903 Racing at New Orleans and Ingleside InglesideIf If all goes well with L V Bells champion race horse Hennis he will be the central figure of the star feature of the opening day of the racing season in New York the Carter Han ¬ dicap to ba run at the Queens County Jockey Clubs course at Aqueduct on April 15 15It It has been figured up that although Han ¬ over has been dead four years his progeny may win more than 51000000 on the turf Up to the present time Hanovers sons and daughters have captured 929202 in stakes and purses Though he was represented last year exclusive ¬ ly by threeyearolds and upward they won 71340 Word comes from New Orleans that trouble is likely to grow out of the decision of the stewards in the claiming of the twoyearold Dick Bernard Sam Hildreth who purchased the colt from Captain Bumbury after the latter claimed him lodged a protest with the Crescent City Jockey Club against Bumbury for failing to deliver the colt to him Burnbury in turn to protect himself will appeal the case to the stewards of the Western Jockey Club If the latter decides against Bumbury it yill lead to a lot of complications The case haa already caused a lot of talk Last year a number of horses were claimed by trainers who acted in exactly the same capacity as did Bum bury Several of the horses claimed have won a number of races If the Western Jockey Club decides that Stewards Bryan and Mc ¬ Dowells ruling was right it looks as if the owners of the horses which were claimed by these trainers have a good case to recover all the purses won by the horses which were claimed from them Captain Sam Brown who is spending a few days at New Orleans in speaking of the case said This is a very serious matter I am in the same position as is Mr 0 G Parke in that I have a couple of men training and managing stables for me I will lose no time in giving both Bob Tucker and Pete Wimmcr power of attorney to act for
