W DANIELS BLANC SE1NG Chicago Turfman Expects to Win WinTijuana Tijuana Derby With the Son Sonof of North Star III SAX DIEGO Cal March 3 In Blanc Seing son of North Star III and Bed of Roses William Daniel of Chicago thinks he has the winner for the Tijuana Derby to be run March 18 Blanc Seing had the distinc ¬ tion last fall of being the first twoyearold in the East to beat the seasoned campaign ¬ ers at a mile On October 27 at Yonkers he met Emotion Nose Dive Cirrus Modo and Flannel Shirt in a dash of one mile and trimmed them handsomely He ran the mile in 1 40 excellent time at Yonkers the slowest course of the metropolitan circuit after Emotion had carried him along the first threequarters in 1 13 and a fraction fractionThe The merit of Blanc Seings performance will lie appreciated when the quality of the horses he whipped is analyzed Emotion is a daughter of Friar Rock for which Mar ¬ shall Field of Chicago and Hobert L Gerry of New York paid 25000 in the spring She and Nedna which had beaten each other in races of one mile and a quarter at Saratoga were about the best mares of their age in training Cirrus another 25000 horse and a son of the 265000 Tracery in the bargain is one of the powerful handicap horses of the stable of Harry F Sinclair Modo was a firstrate threeyearold colt of eastern racing and Flannel Shirt had just finished rather a sensational career of victory at Aqueduct Blanc Seing took the lead from this bunch after the first threequarters and won as he pleased He and Emotion which finished nose and tail with him were off four or five lengths in front of the others Blanc Seing had previously won an overnight race at Jamaica and the Wbodhaven and Mineola Stakes In the Woodhaven a dash of five eighths over the Aqueduct course he defeated Thessaly Anonymous Paisley New Hamp ¬ shire Ambler True Flier and Jolly In the Mineola at threequarters of a mile on the main course at Belmont Park he licked Thessaly Sunday Best Sweep Hawk and others He covered the threequarters in 1 12 and a fraction Blanc Seing was a much better horse over a longer distance than in sprints of five and a half furlongs and threequarters He has never had the quick turn of early speed that makes horses formidable in short dashes He does not develop his speed until he has traveled half a mile or farther And in this direction lie races to his blood lines linesThat That his sire North Star III should be getting stayers is natural He himself would have been favorite for the Epsom Derby re ¬ newal of 1017 if he had remained in Great Britain His daddy Sunstar has got more stayers probably than any British stock horse of the last twentylive years service Conspicuous among Sunstars longdistance running sons and daughters have been Buehan Galloper Light Alen Breck Mar garethal Sir Berkeley and Somme Kiss KissAsking Asking a threeyearold to beat horses of more mature years in a race of one mile and a quarter in March is asking a lot Never ¬ theless Blanc Seing will be trained for the Coffroth Handicap after he shall have filleti his Tijuana Derby engagement provided he shows the longdistance running form ex ¬ pected of him in the Derby renewal
