PARADER VICTORIOUS Wins a Good Race After Many Disappointments Prince of Umbria Takes the Sprint Sprintfor for Three Year Olds Big BigCrowd Crowd Present NEW ORLEANS La March 3 The days attendance at Jefferson Park was of mid j midj season number and was treated to some ex ¬ cellent racing featured by close finishes Con ¬ ditions were perfect and served as an addi addii i tional inducement in bringing out the full strength of racing enthusiasts Two thou ¬ sand dollar races featured the handicap at a mile and seventy yards being given thu place of honor en the card It furnished a victory for Parader which won in easy style from Sir Thomas Kean with Blarney Stone in third place placeIrish Irish Kiss which has met a full measure of success at both tracks this winter carried 12G pounds in the race and conceded much ComicI weight to all the others excepting Comic Song which only had a six pounds advan ¬ tage In view of the undue concessions lie was asked to make Irish Kiss did well to finish as far up as lie did The winner was benefited by a good ride and the pace set by Auntie May and Comic Song in the early racing and when they showed signs of weak ¬ ening he came away to win by a safe margin marginKO3IAXELLI KO3IAXELLI IX LI3tKIHHT LI3tKIHHTThe The veteran Romanelli who was riding in these parts long before many of the present jockeys were born was much in the limelight during the afternoon because his skill huided la pair of winners One of his victories that he earned on Ralco cost him a suspension of ten days He was held to blame for rough riding and causing interference to Canyon in the third race On Neddain winner of the fifth he rode with vigor and kept that horse to his task for the entire race to win easily from Lampus and the favorite Nor ¬ mal Favorites were again in eclipse Parader being the only one that succeeded Their downfall was inaugurated with the defeat of Galeta in the opener and was followed in succession by the failures of Raffles Ha drian Normal and Tom MeTaggart The latter had scant opportunity to display his best because of being in racing difficulties until his chance was gone Tulsa an out ¬ sider won from Dinnbfounder with Scourge man landing third thirdThe The second race bringing together some of the better sprinters here furnished a thrilling finish with Prince of Umbria the victor over Blue Nose by a slight margin and getting up in the last few strides to accomplish his success Raffles was made favorite primarily by the public who re garded his last victory as conclusive The wise brigade fought shy of him and were correct in discrediting his slat winning race for with the contention he met today he was left far behind before half of the distance had been traversed Blue Nose in spite of his 120 pounds led for nearly the entire race and until caught by Prince of Umbria The latter began sjlowly but came with a rush through the stretch stretch11ETTEU 11ETTEU TI3IKS STTJI ISLES ISLESBetter Better Times which finished third might have given the leading pair more contention but for stumbling several times during the race raceThe The opener brought to the post an even dozen of the cheaper grade with Galeta the favorite but the best she could do was to land in third place Fluff beginning fast and leading all the way won the race after a mild drive witli Hysteria Another favorite contributed to the general downfall when Ralco skillfully ridden by Romanelli beat Hadrian home Canyon fin ¬ ished third thirdJockey Jockey McDermott resumed riding this aft ¬ ernoon after an absence of several days on account of illness Thurber will be back in the saddle next Monday He also suf ¬ fered from fever feverRumors Rumors that several horses including Mountain Rose 11 died as a result of pneu monia contracted while being shipped to Bowie reached here this morning K I tollman an apprentice has had ht contract transferred from H Neusteter t A C Porretto PorrettoJoseph Joseph McLennan who has been compiling the program book for Bowies spring meeting announced that he would have it ready for distribution among owners in the next few days
