PARADER FIRST AGAIN Wins Jefferson Parks Feature from Sir Thomas Kean Barracuda in Front at Last Jockey Babin Stars with Three ThreeMounts Mounts Track Notes NEW ORLEANS La March 12 Parader added another purse to his score this after ¬ noon when he triumphed in the mile and a sixteenth handicap over some good ones that included Sir Thomas Kean Calcutta and others He ruled a slight favorite and was benefited by the good ride that Pool gave him himKnown Known as possessing one burst of speed Pool kept him under restraint behind Sir Thomas Kean and Calcutta the pair of leaders forming a natural windbreak for Parader during threoquarters of a mile Then Pool called on Parader and he sprinted away from the contenders with evident ease to win under mild restraint Sir Thomas Kean shaking off the threeyearold Calcut ¬ ta in the last eighth gained second place easily easilyConsiderable Considerable interest centered in the per ¬ formance of Calcutta on account of his being considered a dangerous contender for the 10000 Louisiana Derby that will have its decision on the closing day here next Satur ¬ day He flattered extensively for threequar ¬ ters by maintaining a prominent position but when called on he was wanting He will have to display much better form than he did this afternoon to be a factor in the Derby although running with horses of his own age might cause him to race in much better style styleLAYERS LAYERS HARD HIT HITThreatening Threatening weather with the prospect of a downpour at any minute did not materially reduce the attendance this afternoon Track conditions were again of the best and in ¬ teresting sport developed in most of the dashes The various winners had ample sup ¬ port and the thirty layers that operated were mulcted in goodly sums sumsThe The frequent starting Barracuda was again a factor this afternoon and turned in a victory to his owners account when he won the sprint at live and a half furlongs in commanding style from Kirk Lady and Bel phrizonia Harry B was a huge disappoint ¬ ment here He was held in high esteem but was never prominent in the race raceIt It was jockey Babins turn to shine That rider returned three of his mounts winners They were at good prices and he showed skill in landing them in front He inaugu ¬ rated his success in the opening race when ho won with Roman Girl from Anne the favorite His margin was only a nose but this was due to the fact that he had to ease 1is mount up near the end to keep her from fouling Anne as Roman Girl persisted in swerving swervingHis His second victory was achieved on Black Hackle which won the consolation purse for which Corson was the favorite and fin ¬ ished third This race was conditioned to enable owners who had not won a purse this winter to exclusively race their horses in inHis His final success was astride Wylie in the last race which furnished an upset by win ¬ ning from Belgian Queen another outsider with Devonite in third place Tex High Gear and Magician were awarded backing in this race o the exclusion of the others but were never effective in the running runningLESLIE LESLIE 3IUCII IMPROVED IMPROVEDLeslie Leslie won in runaway style in the second race His showing this afternoon was a vast improvement over that of his last previous race Tender Seth landed in second place and Wrangler headed the others othersThe The Rivurdalc Stable and the horses owned y R Watts will be sent to Lexington to iiight Huonec in the Watts string will have to be left here on account of sickness and will rejoin the stable later laterShamrock Shamrock and Chiva attracted consider ¬ able attention this morning by their good Derby trials Setting Sun and Kulalia also were sent the Derby distance and showed to good advantage advantageMrs Mrs G H Mason has bought Blazonry from P J Miles The latter will continue to train him himWilliam William Shields departed last night for Havre de Grace where he goes to assume charge of the Willis Sharpe Kilmer horses including Exterminator Sallys Alley and others John Shields will be kept in charge of tho J L Holland horses here and also those that W S Kilmer raced here this win ¬ ter The horses will be shipped to Havre de Grace at the close of the Jefferson Park meeting where William Shields will take charge of the Holland horses also alsoJockey Jockey A Johnson who is under contract to W S Kilmer and who is at present at Hot Springs will not come here He will report to the stable at Havre de Grace soon
