HAVRE DE GRACE STAKES Four Events of 5000 Added AddedDown Down for Decision at Coming ComingMaryland Maryland Spring Meeting HAVRE DE GRACE Md March 12 The four stakes of the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Associations coining spring pro ¬ gram just announced by general manager Edward Burke are the Harford and Phila ¬ delphia Handicaps at threequarters mile and one mile and a sixteenth respectively for threeyearolds and over the Aberdeen at four and a half furlongs for twoyearolds and the Chesapeake at one mile and a six ¬ teenth for threeyearolds These races will carry values of 5OCO added each and close on April 7 7About About 150000 will be distributed among the horsemen who participate in the meet ¬ ing April 16 to 30 inclusive No purse will pay less than 1200 in added money The daily distribution in purses will be 10500 10500The The dates fixed for the running of the stakes are Harford Handicap April 16 Philadelphia April 21 Aberdeen April 25 and Chesapeake April 28 The most at ¬ tractive of these specials in anticipation is the Chesapeake Year after year the Chesa ¬ peake brings to the post the most formi ¬ dable threeyearolds of the East preparing for the decision later on at Churchill Downs and Pimlico of the 550000 Kentucky Derby and the 50000 Preakness The Kentucky Derby recently closed with a wonderful entry list of 115 It is a safe bet therefore that the coming Chesapeake will attract more nominations than any renewal of the past has drawn Most of the formidable threo yearolds of the country are in the great stables of the East EastNo No considerable racing stable has win ¬ tered at Havre de Grace but since the first of March there has been a gradual filtering in of horses Lewis Garth showed up some ten days ago with a string of youngsters he himself bred at his Ingleside farm in Albe marle County Virginia A week ago James W McClelland arrived from Kentucky with the string of Edward F Simms Missionary Southern Cross and Poe are in McClellands stable
