COL MATT WINN PLEASED Surprised at Interest Manifested Manifestedby by Chicagoans in Approaching ApproachingKentucky Kentucky Derby LOUISVILLE Ky March 19 General manager M J Whin on his return from Chi ¬ cago made a thorough inspection of the new clubhouse at Churchill Downs which is being rushed to completion completionColonel Colonel Whin was never so enthusiastic over the Kentucky Derby as he is right now He said saidI I never saw as much interest in the Ken ¬ tucky Derby as is being manifested in Chi ¬ cago at the present time The Chicago Ath ¬ letic Club has engaged a special train and will come down 250 strong while the Hamil ¬ ton Club the largest Republican organiza ¬ tion in the middle West is making similar arrangements 1 was besieged with requests for boxes and reserved seats but I was un ¬ able to accommodate onethird of those who applied There will be no reserved seats Derby day as the new stand will be thrown open to the public while the other one is composed entirely of boxes all of which were reserved a long time ago agoIt It has been arranged for starters William Hamilton and William Snyder to come here at the conclusion of the Mobile meeting in order to begin the task of schooling the new twoyearolds at both tracks on April 1 This will prove quite a job this year because of the large number of juveniles hereabouts hut with a good weather break they will be abJe to get a majority of them ready for early racing racingDeadlock Deadlock the good son of Sir Wilfred II Hortense is in fine fettle and training soundly at Churchill Downs after being turned out at Polk LalTons farm since last fall fallJockey Jockey T Brothers is among the recent arrivals from Havana where he rode the greater part of the winter He is under contract to D Lehan LehanThe The big band of twoyearolds owned by J E Madden and in training at Churchill Downs is far advanced in condition and will be ready for an early spring campaign campaignJ J J Flannigan is conducting a public stable at Douglas Park and has some prom ¬ ising juveniles under his charge
