FIRST JUVENILE WINNER Greenback — Saucy Girl Filly from Jarvis Stable Takes First English Two -Year-Old Race. SPECIAL CORRESPONDENCE. LONDON, England, March 20.— The first two-year-old winner of the 1923 season was Jack Jarvis filly by Greenback-Saucy Girl, which he bred and also trains. This was Che Tathwell Auction Plate, which she won by three lengths after leading all the way. There were sixteen runners and she started favorite. Jarvis gave J 5. 000 for Saucy Girl in foal to Greenback in the December sales, 1920. This filly is the produce. In 1921 he mated the mare with Hurry On. This mating resulted in a fine chestnut colt, for which Sir Robert Jardine paid ,500 last December. Colonel Phil T. Chinn was a contending bia-der. Saucy Girl belongs to the family not num-beredby Bruce Lowe. Her dam. Vinaigrette, bred Antoinette, which has won more than a dozen races in the United States and Canada. Vinaigrette was by Diamond Jubilee brother to Persimmon, from Prisoners daughter, Cellaret. The latter bred a handsome horse in Mos-cato, by Marco. He was as good as he looked and among other races won the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot. He is at the stud in South Africa, where he is siring a lot of winners and bids fair to head the stallion list for this season. A few years ago Moscato broke a leg. His owner refused to have him destroyed. By exercising great care and wonderful patience, aided by his own perfect disposition. Moscato made a remarkable recovery. He had then only spent a couple of seasons in Cape Colony, so his owner, E. V. Birch, deserves his reward.
