. j I I j ] ] CHURCHILL DOWNS NEW SEATING ACCOMMODATIONS LOUISVILLE, Ky.. April 15.— Improvements -have been made on the Churchill Downs course, so that more than thirty horses can start in the Kentucky Derby and all of them get a sendaway which should not prove disadvantageous to any of them. This has been brought about by widening the stretch at the bend where the quarter post stood to 120 feet. The quarter post has been moved straight upstretch. The first turn beyond the finish line also has been widened in the same proportion, so that there will be no danger of an accident at the finish of a race, where a large field is engaged. While the finish line has been moved nearer the first bend than it has stood for years, this widening of the main track makes for better racing, in that the stretch run is more than a quarter of a mile. The new clubhouse and long pergola is rapidly Hearing completion. Seats will be provided in this addition for about 5.00 persons and when completed the stands will be approximately 1.000 feet long. It is esti- mated that this new seating arrangement will accommodate about 25,000 persons corrr- fortably.
