Dr. Robert, a well-known specialist of To-. ronto. came down for a few days racing. T. Francis, who recently underwent a minor operation, joined the crowd on the lawn today. Luke Cassidy, resident manager of Laurel. was a visitor this afternoon and will remain a few days. "Walter Jennings is a guest of W. P. Burch at Washington and both are expected at Havre de Grace on Saturday. "William Ryan of Chicago "and Sam Austin were among the visitors this afternoon and will be here for the remainder of the meet-, irff. Ormead. the property of George Brooks, broke down in the steeplechase yesterday, and has been returned to the farm at Birds- boro, Pa., by trainer Keating. Today, Joseph McLennan passed out stake blanks for the meetings of the Ontario Jockey Club at Toronto and the Montreal Jockey Club at Blue Bonnets. Paul Mitchell, who will be remembered as the leading rider of 1900, arrived from his home in Colorado yesterday. Mitchell quit the saddle to take up the study of veterinary surgery. He is seeking a position as trainer with some eastern stable. Owen Pons stated this morning that Star Jester, the winner of several stake races last year, had been sold to the Westports Stable. He will be shipped with the re-1 mainder of the stable to Woodbine Park, to fulfill stake engagements. George Phillips announced that he would ship from here to Cleveland, Ohio, to take part in the Maple Heights meeting. Phillips has enlarged his stable via the claiming route. Phillips wishes to announce that he has absolutely no connection with a tipping agency that is advertising under the name of Phillips. Trainer H. McPaniel stated that the Can- adianbreds in the J. K. L. Ross stable would be transfered from the farm at Laurel, Md., to Toronto early next month. No plana for a weeding out sale have been announced, although there is excess material which will be disposed of.
