DUNLIN AND MARTINGALE J. S. Cosdens Preakness and Kentucky Derby Candidates Work Mile in 1 :43 % at Pimlico. BALTIMORE. Md., April IS— Dunlin and Martingale, two of J. S. Ce.sdens most notable candidates for the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby, woiked a mile over the Pimlico course this morning in 1 :13% and it was one of the fastest moves shown in Maryland this spring by any of the candidates. Kummer had the leg up on Dunlin and Lang rode Martingale. Carth had them start from the five-eighths poet in the backiitretch and worked back to the same pi si. While they worked together and were undr steadying restraint all the way. Martingale waj showing the way. After the move Garth remarked that Dunlin never had be mi a work horse and that he was more than pleased with the gallop. The fractions were: 12%. 251.-,. M%, 19%, 1 12%. 1:13%, 1:20 and 1:13%. Both colts came out of the work without taking a long breath and it was a gallop to indicate that each is not far from real ireakness condition. The Preakness is to be run at Pimlico May 12 and the I erby date follows at Churchill Downs May 10. Another of the Garth hoises that went along impressively was Snob II . the Freneh-bred four-year-old for which Mr. Cesden pa d John Sanford .00 last year. He is looking exceedingly well and. with Cyclone as running mate for the first five-eighths, he talloped an easy mile in 1:44%.
