AKRON RACING UNDER WAY Big Crowd Despite Cold Weather — Expect to Amicably Settle Difference Over Betting. AKRON. Ohio. April 18. — Displaying all her old time speed. T. B. Waters My Gracie barely lasted to score from Advance by a nose in the Inaugural Purse, the fifth and feature attraction of the initial days racing of the Akron Racing Association at Fountain Park this afternoon. Advance followed the winner closely throughout and barely failed to get up. Long Island made a show of his opponents in the opening dash and Lenieve also won with much to spare. The remaining races were productive of close and exciting finishes. The riding of M. Garrett was a feature. He piloted three winners. An exceedingly large crowd was in attendance despite the winter-like weather that prevailed. No mutuels were sold on any of the races, due to local opposition which is likely to be amicably settled shortly. T. B. Waters reports the death of the sprinter McLane which died of pneumonia while en route here from Havana. «
