CRACK 0 DAWN IN FRONT Shows Eeturn to Best Form in Winning Feature Race. Canadian-Bred Race to Bengore Sarko and "Whalebone Score Scoond Successes of Meeting. TORONTO, Ont, Oct. 4. J. McMillans six-year-old chestnut son of The Manager, the speedy Crack o Dawn, returned to his good form of last spring when he easily de- fcated a crack band in the Roscdalo Handicap, the feature of tho days card at Thorn-cliffe Park. Harmonious, racing for A. J. "Wells, was second, a short head in front of J. Bishops Louis, with Marsdale saving the fourth money. The field left the barrier in almost a perfect line and continued to race heads apart to the first turn. Here Crack o Dawn, being favored by the inside position, was able to save much ground, while the outside horses were forced to race very wide. Entering the backstretch Crack o Dawn was a good length clear and going easily, while Harmonious had raced up to take second place. Marsdale and Gray Gables had much the worst of it up till then, neither being able to improve his position. Going around the far turn Fields again released Crack o Dawn from restraint and ho soon settled all doubt as to the winner, scoring in a canter. Harmonious in the stretch made a game effort, but was driving fast, barely saving second place from the fast charging Louis A. Tho weather was cloudy and cold, but a large crowd turned out to witness tho program. For the Canadian-bred race at three-quarters, which inaugurated the afternoons sport, Bengore was the pronounced choice and no mistake was made in selecting the Seagram-bred racer. He was always close up and though going wide on the stretch easily raced the pacemaker Chief Sponsor into defeat. Once in front Bengore drew clear and had a safe margin at the end. War Tank closed an immense gap to earn second place, outlasting Ardella in the last few strides. The California two-year-old Sarko that races under the silks of the Kenton Stable, came back and won his second victory of the meeting when he beat a band of horses of his own age in the second race, in which his stablemate, Senator Norris, a first-time starter, finished third. Sarko raced into tho lead on the far turn and was never in danger thereafter. Whalebone was another repeater, the T. B. Crist gelding accounting for the third race. He had an easy time, for after assuming the lead at the last turn he met no serious opposition and had plenty in reserve at the finish. Heavy Artillery finished second and Brown Belle third, the latter outgaming Knighthood, which came in for strong support, though doing nothing to warrant it The mile and a sixteenth of the fourth race recorded a victory for the Jim Gaffney horse Tribune. The result would probably have been different had not Watrous kept Darnley out of contention too long. He permitted his mount to drop back to the rear in tho early running and waited too long before making his move. When called on Darnley responded with a wonderful display of speed and, passing one horse after another, ho was soon Avithin striking distance of the leader. However, the remaining distance was too short and although going two strides to the winners one he failed to overtake him in one of the most interesting finishes seen at this meeting.
