ZEV UNDER COLORS Wins Empire Citys Closing Feature Before Going to Latonia. Secondary Feature to Amor Pa- triae Easily Last Race of New York Fall Season to Sunfey. YONKERS, N. Y., Oct. 31 Zev, Harry F Sinclairs conqueror of Papyrus in the International race, had a useful work for hid engagement in the Latonia Championship Stakes, at Latonia Saturday, when he was winner of the Autumn Championship Staked at the Yonkers track of the Empire City Racing Association. The Autumn Championship is a mile for all ages under scale weight, and it was the closing day feature of the Yonkers meeting and the New York season. It was worth ,160 to tho winner and was another important addition to the princely earnings of the son of The Finn and MisS Kearney. There were only four went to the post and one of these was Bracadale, a two-year-old stable mate of the champion. Tho others were Scott Harlans Tryster and August Belmonts Ladkin. When Ladkin ran off with Georgie Cooper, before tho start, ho was practically eliminated and the Rancocas stable pair finished first and second, beating Tryster fifteen lengths. There was a big crowd to be in at the finish of the 1923 racing in New York, and the appearance of Zev was a fitting climax to the tremendously successful meeting, even though his victory was a hollow one. When Ladkin broke through the barrier and ran off with Cooper it occasioned a short delay, but after he had been caught by Red Coat Murray and returned to the post, Cassidy sent the quartet away to an excellent start. Bracadale, from a position next to the rail, was first to show in front and the other three were close lapped on him. On the first turn Cooper pulled Ladkin to the outside and tho other three went around the corner in close order. Tryster shot to the front before tho back stretch was reached and the Rancocas pair galloping along back of him well in hand. The pace was good when the first quarter was covered in 24 and the half in 47 ana both Zev and Bracadale were under restraint, with the two-year-old running along on tho inside where the going was deep, while Sando held Zev well out from the rail. ZEV UNDER RESTRAINT. It was after leaving the back stretch that the Rancocas team charged on Tryster and went on by, Zev on the outside and Bracadale on the inside, into the stretch with the two-year-old holding on to the champion well, but Sande had his mount still in hand while Fator was rousing Bracadale with his whip. In the last eighth Zev came on away to readily beat Bracadale, while after Tryster was hopelessly beaten ho was eased up. After the finish, the mile being completed in 1:40, Sande galloped Zev out to the mile and an eighth in 1 :5G and he was pulled up the mile and a quarter in 2:14. All through tho running the brown colt was going easily and he looked infinitely better than the day he made such a show of Papyrus. Zev will be shipped to Latonia Thursday and he will have for a traveling companion, the two-year-old Stanwix. L. M. Fator and Sande will both go to the Kentucky track: with the Rancocas stable consignment. There was a short three-quarters claiming handicap that was meant for the second best race of the day. and it resulted in a rather handy victory for Mrs. E. M. Browns Amor Patriae. Whirlwind, racing under the silks of John Pangle, was the one to finish second and II. M. Howards St. Allan was the only other starter after John E. Mad-dens Flintstone had been withdrawn. There really was little to the contest for Amor Patriae beat the other two away and Coltil-letti, after sending him into a safe lead, rated him along in front all the way. He was becoming leg weary at the end, but had rlenty left to win by a length. Through the early stages L. Fator had Whirlwind under slight restraint and it was St. Allan that was in second place. In tho stretch, when it was apparent that St. Allan was thoroughly beaten-Whirlwind improved his pace and, closing with good speed, beat the old horse two lengths for second place and was right on the tajl of the winner. PATHAN OUTLASTS MISS D03IINO. L. J. Careys Pa than proved best of tho selling plater juveniles that raced over tho five and a half furlongs distance of the opening dash. Beginning well, Pathan was rated along back of the Riviera Stables Miss Domino and then outfinished her through tho final eighth. Third was the portion of J. A. Harpers All in -All. As the barrier rose Pathan had a slight advantage, but Miss Domino was right after Continued on twelfth pase. ZEV UNDER COLORS Continued from first page. him and in the first eighth she had him headed and had gone into a lead of a couple of lengths and she appeared to fce racing, easily. Ombrage and All in All were not, far away and the others were more or less strung out. Swinging for home Turner went wide with Miss Domino in search of the best footing. Pathan also made a wide turn and Ombrage saA-ed ground, but in doing so ho was in deep footing that more than offset the ground that was saved. It was not until inside the final eighth that Pathan drew up on Miss Domino, but as he did the filly tired and he came on to win by a length. Miss Domino beat All in All two lengths and All in All was throe "lengths farther away. Vulcain Park, from the Blue Star stable, was Avinner of the mile and seAcnty yards of the second race Avhen lie outgamed Mela-chrino through the stretch after having avoided the early pace. S. Goochs Flying Devil Avas third Avhen he led C. L. Downs Recommendation home. The start Avas a good one and Recommendation at once went out to set pace, Avith Melachrino in second place and Flying Devil Avas third. Wynnewood, one that usually shows becoming speed leaAing the post, was i disgracefully sluggish and he was last Avhen t the turn Aas reached, Avith Turner riding hard to arouse him into an effort. Sande rated Melachrino along behind Recommendation in the back stretch and drew up on the leader on the far turn. In a few strides he Avas by and had gone into a good lead. Stutts had been Avorking his Avay on the inside Avith Vulcain Park and he Avas running so fast that it Avas apparent three-eights from the finish that he Avas the one to fear. Melachrino was still well clear AAhen he swung for home, but Sande realized the danger from Vulcain Park and he Avas sending him along at his best pace. As the son of Vulcain drew alongside, Sande Avent to the whip and for a few strides hold a slight lead, but Vulcain Park Avas just beginning to run and he AAas on by Avithout much effort. Flying Devil made a Avide swing into the stretch and that gave him a distinct ad-Aantage over Recommendation, AAhen Fator chose the inside with his mount Right at the end WynneAvood continued to race in his sluggish fashion and there A-as no amount of driving by Turner that put him anywhere near the money. George Choos Sun Briar colt Feysun won the final race of the New York season, at fiA-e and a half furlongs, from Frank Taylors first-time starter Abu Ben Ahdem by three lengths. Loanda, carrying the Ran-cocas Stables colors, finished third six lengths behind the leaders and a half length before Nemesis for third position.
