Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Nov. I, 1903 Sunday, no racing. The Fair Grounds statistics which were published disclosed the fact that the last meeting in St. Louis was the means of distributing 3,-905 to owners who raced their horses there. T. P. Hayes was the largest winner, having won ,685. First honors among the horses fell to Bridge with ,000. Several owners came in with their stables at Latonia today. Some few came from St. Louis, but the majority of them were shipped from the Worth track at Chicago. Among those who arrived were Mcse Goldblatt, Frank Arthur, J. W. Fulhr, R. F. Williams, J. J. Mc-Cafferty, S. E. Parmer, W. D. Twyman and James Arthur. Rome Rsspess was, until a day or so ago, undecided as to how best to winter Dick Welles. At the Woodlawn farm a new barn has been erected in the place of the one destroyed last winter by fire, and for a time he was figuring on taking a chance with the great colt in this structure with the balance of his1 string, but he has now decided to erect a concrete barn of one stall and quarters for an attendant, who will be with the champion constantly during the frozen period. The very successful Worth autumn meeting closed Saturday with the record of having distributed 0,611 among winning owners. S. C. Hildreth led the list, but by no very great margin, the money having been well distributed. Hildreth had a total of ,538, with Captain S. S. Brown in second place with ,305. There were six other owners who won in excess of the ,000 mark. The rejuvenated sprinter Golden Rule came out at the head of the list of winning horses with the neat sum of ,100 to his credit.
