MONEY -WINNING HORSES Leaders of Each Year on the American Turf Since 1202- Zevs Great Total. When the racing season of 1923 was ushered in there were many who predicted that it would be a year of unrivaled prosperity on tho American turf and there were many I favorable indications that gallant old Exterminator would surpass the mighty Man o War as the greatest money winner, but none foresaw that a three-year-old of no unusual fame as a two-year-old would startle the entire racing world by winning more money in one year than the great majority of the greatest horses in the world ever won during their entire racing careers. However, such a remarkable happening came to pass and as everyone familiar with the story of last years racing it was the Rancocas star, Zev, that accomplished the seemingly impossible. In comparison to Zevs great winnings, the sums to the credit of the leading money-winners of the years preceding seem insignificant, especially during the lean period of tho American turf from 1911 to 1917. Still there is another view, the quick revival after those dark days and the ever growing prosperity as disclosed in the big figures of the last few years.
