1 Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of March 6, 1904 Sunday no racing. Ex-judge George C. Perkins of Covington looks upon the decision rendered several days ago in the case of the Latonia racing course as only preliminary to what- is to follow on the matter. He has announced his deter-jnination to fight the case to the end. At Ascot Park last Friday jockey Redfern was ordered by judge Hamilton to ride a certain horse, which his father refused to permit him to do. For this the crack jockey and intermeddling father were both promptly ruled off. Judges on a race track have absolute authority over jockeys, trainers and horses during racing hours, and Redfern, Sr.s, action would not be tolerated on any track in the country. Between judicial and parental orders the jockey was in a difficult position and this will no doubt operate to bring about his restoration to riding privileges presently. Word comes from the East that Harry Payne Whitney will continue practically intact the racing stable of his father. The thoroughbreds probably will, until the usual period of mourning shall .have passed, be entered in the name of Frank R. Hitchcock. This, it is understood, was the desire expressed by Mr. Whitney during his last illness. Direct announcement of the plans has not been made, because the stable, being an asset of the estate, could only be retained as an asset by the consent of all the heirs. The latter will meet shortly. Should any heir object to the retention of any part of the stable, this must be sold.
