BOWIE TURF NOTES Matt Smart shipped over at the same time the public stable he wintered at Benning. Frank Herrold shipped the jumper Honorable from Benning to the Harford county course this morning. Preparations have been completed to move the A. C. Bostwiek stable to Havre de Grace from Benning this week. Joseph McLennan resumed his duties today, fully recovered from his illness and reported that the Havre de Grace stakes closed in a satisfactory manner. Jockey P. Mercler was stricken with a slight attack of illness previous to the running of the first race and was forced to cancel his engagements for the afternoon. Thistlewood, a two-year-old which was carded to start in the first race today in the colors of the Nevada Stock Farm developed a case of distemper and was excused by the atewards. There was quite a number of New Yorkers who have D*B«a racing at Bowie, left for New York to spend the week-end. Among those were Mortimer F. Lynch, Harry Stoddard, J. .V Cobb, and Ban Johnson. «
