SCENE SHIFTS TO PIMLICO Maryland Jockey Club to Inaugurate Its Spring Meeting Today. i ♦ Jennings Handicap Stellar Attraction of an Exceptionally Promising Opening Bay Program. if—— BALTIMORE, Md.. April 30— The Maryland Jockey Club, the oldest in Maryland and one of the foremost racing organizations , in this country, will distribute the imposing sum of 23,200 in added money during the spring meeting of eleven days, which begins ; at Pimlieo tomorrow and continues to Tuesday, May 13, inclusive. There is a stake race provided for each | day of the meeting with the 0,000 added Preakness Stakes, the outstanding attraction. The revived Dixie Handicap, with 5,000 added, will undoubtedly share with the Preakness the interest of the great crowds that are sure to attend the meeting. The Maryland Jockey Club has always ! encouraged and fostered racing through the field and during the spring meeting will offer 5,000 in added money for steeplechases. For the principal attraction of opening day | the Jennings Handicap of ,000 added is provided. This is a dash of three-quarters ; of a mile, and twenty-two horses of fine speed and quality have been named to con- . test for this rich prize. Such good ones as Goshawk. Senator Norris, Ixird Baltimore II., Indian Trail, Golden Rule, Shuffle Along, Worthmore, Sun Flag, Sunspero. Comixa, Dinna Care. Champlain and others are among the prospective starters. The secondary feature, and one that should ! prove as interesting as the stake race, is the mile of the Merchants Handicap, to be run sixth on the program. The ever-popular Exterminator is scheduled to start in this , race and he will have such good opponents as Wilderness, Diogenes, Martingale, Golden Sphere, Wilkes-Barre and Fairway. As usual the devotees of the sport through the field will have an opportunity to witness their favorite sport, the second race on the program being the Inaugural Steeplechase. la which a high-class band of jumpers has been named to start. In every respect the opening day program I is one in keeping with the best traditions of | old Pimlieo, and with pleasant weather pre- ; vailing a capacity crowd is certain to witness its decision. *
