Whitney Establishments Twice Successful — Lilt Beats Heeltaps in Close Finish— Mainmast Shows Wonderful Speed in Winning Prince of Wales Handicap ■ ♦ TORONTO, Ont., May 20. — E. F. Whitneys Gymkhana, the daughter of Jim Gaffney— Our Hanna, won the twentieth renewal of the Victoria Stakes at Woodbine Park this afternoon. A length and a half back of the winner came L. Campbells Earla Baby, which had set the pace from the five-eighths to the eighth post. H. P. Whitneys Toppanite, the favorite, was third. Scobie rode the winner. The race was run ever a slow track, which was approaching fast under the influence of a moderate wind. Despite the condition of the track the E. F. Whitney filly picked up 119 pounds, scale weight, and ran the five-eighths in 1:01%. The sun shone through the afternoon, but the temperature was still too low for comfort. After a two-minute delay at the post, occasioned by the lunging cf Toppanite, the field Sleft well aligned, except for Traymore and Damon Runyon, first-time starters, which began greenly. Toppanite went to the front at the rise of the barrier, but Earla Baby raced around him quickly and drew away from his opponents. Gymkhana came around the pair and wore the leader down in the final eighth. In the Breeders Stakes, open enly to three-year-olds foaled and owned at the time of contest by residents of the Dominion of Canada, Vrana was pounds the best, winning under stout restraint by twelve lengths. Isoletta, the Kings Plate favorite, finished second, six lengths in advance of Seven Oaks, which fought it out with Thorndyke for third meney. P. Walls rode Vrana, which completed a double for him and for the stable of J. K. L. Ross. Vrana went to the front immediately after the start. She led throughout the mile and an eighth. After five-eighths the others began to falter Dehind her, permitting her to open up a lead of twenty lengths without being urged. Vrana was not eligible to the Kings Plate because she was not bred in Ontario. She is a product cf Commander Ross Vercheres Stud near Montreal. DISPLAYS GREAT SPEED. E. F. Whitney, who missed by a nose winning the opening dash with Heeltaps and won the Victoria with Gymkhana, gathered the ,575 coming to the winner of the Prince of Wales Handicap when Mainmast made a slow track look fast by running three-quar-[ ters in 1:12%. The Superman horse won easily by a length and a half from Sarko. Hildur finished third. Scobie waited in third position with Mainmast, while Corenzio went to the front, pursued most closely by Sarko. At the top of the turn the pacemaker began to fall back and Sarko came around him into the lead. At the eighth post Mainmast ranged alongside Sarko, were him down in a short duel and began drawing away. - Lilt, carrying the silks of Commander J. K. L. Ross, beat E. F. Whitneys Heeltaps in a heart-breaking finish in the first race on the program, a three-quarters dash for fillies and mares, three years old and over. P. Walls had the leg on the winner, the first to carry the Montreal silks to victory at the meeting. Malapert beat the ethers in a field of ten. Ombrage went out to make the pace, closely attended by Heeltaps, which raced on the outside of the Don Valley Farm Stable filly. At the top of the turn Ombrage let go and Heeltaps widened. Walls on the winner and* Romanelli on Listen Dearie challenged at tho same time, Lilt saving ground next to the inside rail. She caught the leader tiring in the final quarter and downed her in the final stride. STEEPLECHASE TO LOLLIPOP. Lollipop won the Helter Skelter Steeplechase for the account of R. Pending, leading Plying Frog by eight lengths at the end of two miles over a deep course. Rocking Horse finished third. Chuckle, the fourth starter, lost W. Keating at the thirteenth fence. B. Harris, on the winner, lost much ground in the early running, steering a course through the better going, but Lollipop went to the front starting the run through the rear of the field for the last time and, jumping safely, won all the way from there on. Bonnie Lady made all the pace in the Lansdowne Claiming Plate far tanadian-breds, at a mile and seventy yards, an i lasted to win by a neck from June Fly, thi public choice. Leaside was third. R. 1un-chon, in the silks of Mrs. A. E. Alexandra, rode the Fitzwillian filly. Warning made the pace into the stretch ii the final and surrendered the Dad when So it Cues charged around her, but came again and won by half a 1-ngth, with little Lang riding hard.
