j I j I , ; TURF NEWS OF THE DAY FROM BELMONT PARK NEW YORK. N. Y., May 29. H. C. Fisher left for Louisville to witness Nellie Morse, the Preakness winner, start in the renewal of the Kentucky Oaks. During the absence of trainer Alec Gor-I don the H. C. Fisher horses will be saddled by James Fitzsimmons. A division of the N. Loscalzo stable, in charge of Bobby Boyle, will also leave for Montreal to campaign. W. V. Thraves, who sold the sensational Happy Thoughts to the Xalapa Farm last year, was an arrival from the west yesterday for a brief visit. W. H. Chambers has turned Tattle Smile-over to F. J. Kearns to campaign at Blue Bonnets. Kings Ransom, which was claimed by J. N. Ledoux. will also be shipped to that point. Friendship II.. a Man o War two-year-old in the Gwynn R. Tomkins Stable, is seriously ill and threatened with pneumonia, and, it is reported, that several others in his barn are coughing. Jockey J. Pierce, who rode the Meadow-brook Farms Xophime in the running of the closing days steeplechase at Toronto, will resume riding on Saturday, fully recovered from his injuries. Ten additional horses of the G. A. Cochran stable will be shipped to Kentucky to campaign at Latonia. bringing the total up to fifteen. The remainder will be left in New York and rested up for a campaign at Saratoga. Jockey J. Burke was forced to cancel his engagements for yesterday due to an injured hand. He has closed agreements with the stable of James Butler for second call and with Harry Payne Whitney for third call, while A. S. Woodliffe retains first call. The books for the Aqueduct meeting of the Queens County Jockey Club were distributed today. This meeting opens June 14 and continues until July 7. The opening day features are the Brooklyn Handicap and the Bay Side, a selling steeplechase. Trainer A. G. Blakely reported that several of his stable that were taken down with illness were on the mend. Master Charlie. Tiuana Futurity winner, whieh was fired last week for a blind splint, will be put back in training during the Saratoga meeting. Catalogues for a sale of horses in training, to be conducted in the Helmont Park paddock Saturday. were distributed among horsemen. This sale will be conducted by the Fasig-Tipton Company with E. J. Tranter as auctioneer, and there are consignments from George D. Widener, Robert R Gerry, Edward Arlington, R. Penn Smith. Jr., J. L. Holland. Ascot Stable and others.
