BLACK RULER IN FRONT Triumphs Over Star Red in Principal Race at Toledo Two More for Jockey Dolin. TOLEDO. Ohio, Aug. 22. Claiming races made up the program at Fort Miami today, but nevertheless some keen contests resulted. Black Ruler, heavily backed second choice, defeated Star Red, the favorite, in the sixth which brought together the best field of the day. The son of Atheling was away well and saved ground on the turns, while Star Red, under poor riding, was permitted to be shut off twice, then came around on the outside at the stretch head, but was exhausted from his early efforts and could not get up. Glenn was a fast-going third: Jockey J. Dolin continued his good work by winning with Ciceronian and Black Ruler, the former scoring in the largest field of the day in handy fashion. Tom Norris bled during the running of the second race and but for that would have undoubtedly been a contender and he was only beaten a short distance for third. La Drole also bled In the third and was pulled up. Jockey L. Gray suffered a bad looking fall when Happy Moments stumbled during the running of the fourth race, but fortunately escaped with a shaking up. T. Hector claimed Hopeful, winner of the third race, from C. H. Morrison for 00.
